Pink Fever

Pink, I know. Nuts! Something I never thought I'd ever post about. I'm putting this temporary colour psychosis down to spending an entire weekend recently in the company of my three year old niece.

    Ah well, honeysuckle pink seems to be appealing to everyone ~ so perhaps Pantone are onto something!

    In answer to your question on my blog, about the cork...yes bamboo is a good choice for flooring too, as long as it comes from a certified harvesting process. This information is pretty quickly found if you do a hunt of their websites. The average crop time is 6 years ~ pretty fast compared with hardwood plantations of eg. brushbox or spotted gum, which are around 50 years. {These native hardwoods from regrowth forests are ok too.} And don't even get me started on Merbau, and similar timbers from rainforests....they are not a good choice at all.

    Bamboo is surprisingly strong as a flooring, which is why it is used so extensively in retail fitouts. There are wonderful new tones and wider boards available now. I love the striped zebra type patterns, and the rich colours. It is also very easy to look after, as, like timber, you can just sand it back and recoat with a hydrothane finish when it looks sad.

    In terms of best choice for flooring, on environmental process grounds, I would say look at bamboo, cork from Portugal, linoleum {which is made from cork and linseed and is one of my absolute favourite flooring materials}, recycled solid timber {expensive but beautiful}, and carpets made from seagrass and other fast~growing crops.
